Can Invisalign Fix Crowded Teeth?
Invisalign is fast becoming one of the most popular ways to address a wide range of orthodontic issues, but does this include overcrowding?
In this short guide, we’ll explore the role of orthodontics (including Invisalign) in treating overcrowded teeth. If you’re struggling with crowded teeth at any age, Invisalign could help to address this problem,
What does it mean to have crowded teeth?
Overcrowding occurs when there isn’t enough space for the teeth in the mouth, leading to poor alignment as the teeth push against one another to find space. This will often occur during adolescence when the adult teeth emerge, and the issue can become worse as you get older.
Without orthodontic treatment to address this issue, there is the risk of lifelong dental issues, as misaligned and overcrowded teeth are very difficult to keep clean. There may also be issues with impacted teeth as the wisdom teeth emerge, as crowding will often mean that there is no space for these teeth.

How can Invisalign fix crowded teeth?
Invisalign alone might not be enough to fix crowded teeth, but it can be an important part of the treatment plan. You might need tooth extractions to help make space for the remaining teeth. We can then straighten your teeth into perfect alignment using the Invisalign treatment plan.
Extractions alone won’t be enough to achieve straighter teeth. We have to follow up with orthodontic treatment, as this will help to move the teeth into the new space created by the extractions.
Invisalign works by applying even pressure to the teeth, moving them on the ideal path to correct alignment. This is great for crowded teeth, as there are often many misalignments to address. Unlike with fixed metal braces, Invisalign patients can remove their aligners to eat, drink and brush their teeth.

Why is Invisalign so great for crowded teeth?
Invisalign is a modern treatment plan that is perfect for crowded teeth due to the modern approach. Treatment begins with a digital scan that allows us to create a 3D rendering of the teeth. Each tooth is isolated, allowing us to determine the optimum movement path.
The treatment plan is designed in full from the start, which means there are far fewer checkups for adjustments. This makes it a much more attractive option for busy professionals and teens alike.
Will my teeth stay straight forever?
Teeth will often return to the easiest possible alignment once treatment is completed. This might not be perfect alignment, which is why we recommend wearing a retainer at night time, or wearing a fixed bonded retainer.
A night time retainer is similar to the Invisalign trays, so the feeling will be very familiar. With a fixed bonded retainer, we attach a small piece of metal wire to the back of your teeth to keep them in alignment.
